| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash BATON ROUGE – Shortly after 5:30 p.m. yesterday, a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Plaquemine woman on LA 3066 west of LA 1 in Iberville Parish. Dedra Doiron (W/F, age 52) of Plaquemine, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Pickup west on LA 3066 at a high rate of speed when she ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. Doiron was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred and sustained critical injuries because of the crash. Acadian Ambulance transported Doiron to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where she later died. Excessive speed and the fact that she was not wearing a seat belt are considered to be factors in her death. Troopers do not suspect alcohol to have been a factor; however, they have submitted a sample of Doiron’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers see tragic, senseless crashes take place on our roadways every day. Most of these crashes are avoidable. Careful, patient driving and seat belt use greatly reduce the number of serious injuries and fatalities that we see. Troopers will continue to aggressively enforce Louisiana’s primary seat belt law in order to minimize the injuries and deaths that occur all too often.
