Breaux Bridge Man Killed in Fiery Single Vehicle Crash

ARNAUDVILLE Shortly before 5:00 am on February 4, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 93 near Grain Elevator Rd. in St. Martin Parish. The crash took the life of 23 year old Dominick S. Roy of Breaux Bridge.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Roy was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 93 in a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. As Roy entered into a curve his Chevy ran off of the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the Chevy struck an unoccupied structure. Both the Suburban and the structure became engulfed in flames.

Roy suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Due to vehicle damage it is unknown if he was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from Roy to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
