Motorcyclist Killed in Iberia Parish Crash

New Iberia – Shortly after 6:30 am this morning, Troopers with Troop I were notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 83 at US 90. The crash took the life of 48 year old Wade Renard of New Iberia.

The preliminary investigation revealed 34 year old Diovigildo Salina-Salverez was traveling north on LA 83 in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Salina-Salverez began to make a left turn to enter the US 90 westbound on-ramp and was struck by a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Renard. Renard sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. Salina-Salverez was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending on the part of Renard at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Salina-Salverez submitted a chemical breath test and was not impaired. Salina-Salverez was cited for Failure to Yield. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always look and make sure it is clear before pulling into traffic or across intersections. Never try and “make it” across when it is unsafe to do so. Always be mindful of other vehicles on the roadway, and obey all traffic control devices.
