TROOP I NEWS RELEASE March 23, 2018 Shreveport Man Killed in Head-On Crash on LA 29 Evangeline Parish - Shortly before 7:00 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a fatal head-on crash on LA 29 near Cabot Road in Evangeline Parish. The crash claimed the life of 53-year-old Bobby Jefferson of Shreveport. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Jefferson was driving a 2018 Kenworth box truck southbound on LA 29. For reasons still under investigation, the Kenworth crossed the centerline and struck a 2008 Mack garbage truck, operated by 54-year-old Carl Fontenot of Washington, LA. Despite wearing a seat belt, Jefferson suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office. Fontenot was wearing a seat belt and suffered moderate injuries. He was transported to Rapides Parish Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for testing. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state.
