TROOP I NEWS RELEASE
April 27, 2016

****UPDATE****

The driver has been identified as 52-year-old Linda Rogers of New Iberia. Notification has been made to members of her family.

Female Driver Dies in Iberia Parish

Iberia Parish- On April 27, 2016 shortly before 2:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a crash on LA Highway 86 near Crochet Road in Iberia Parish. The driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old female, was found dead near the vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the female driver was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on LA 86. For unknown reasons, the driver crossed the centerline into the westbound lane and then onto the left shoulder. The driver overcorrected steering to the right in an attempt to re-enter LA 86. The Trailblazer began to rotate clockwise and overturned coming to rest on its roof. The driver of the vehicle was located on the outside of the vehicle, only a few feet where the vehicle came to rest. The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and pronounced the female driver dead.

Investigating Troopers were able to determine the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not ejected. Troopers along with the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office are continuing the investigation into the exact cause of death.

Impairment is suspected and standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Troopers are in the process of locating and notifying the driver’s next of kin. This crash remains under investigation.

Troop I has investigated 23 fatal crashes resulting in 23 deaths so far in 2016.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired can mean the difference between life and death.
