TROOP I NEWS RELEASE October 15, 2016 Rayne Man Killed In Single Vehicle Crash Vermilion Parish – On October 14, 2016, shortly after 7:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal crash that occurred on LA 699 near LA 700 in Vermilion Parish. The crash took the life of 59 year old Kenneth Brasseaux of Rayne, LA. The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Brasseaux was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on LA 699. For unknown reasons, Brasseaux crossed the centerline and ran off of the roadway. Brasseaux overcorrected and crossed both lanes of travel, struck a ditch, and overturned. Brasseaux was wearing a seat belt, but sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash, but standard toxicology samples were taken from Brasseaux and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that distracted driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: | |||
