| TROOP I - NEWS RELEASE October 28, 2016 Iberia Parish Crash Leaves Two Dead New Iberia, LA- Shortly before 2:30 AM on Friday October 28, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were dispatched to a two vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 90 eastbound near LA 675. The crash claimed the lives of 22 year-old Cypress Boudreaux of St. Martinville and 38 year-old Tessie Sylvester of New Iberia. The initial on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Boudreaux was driving a 2004 Mini Cooper westbound in the eastbound lanes of US Hwy 90. Boudreaux crashed nearly head-on into an eastbound 2009 KIA Optima driven by Sylvester. Despite being properly restrained, Boudreaux sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Sylvester was not wearing a seat belt and sustained fatal injuries. Both were pronounced deceased on-scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. Presently, Troopers suspect impairment to have been a contributing factor in this crash. As part of the on-going investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the crime lab for analysis. Impairment continues to be the primary contributing factor in nearly 40 percent of fatal crashes on Louisiana roadways. The frustrating fact for Law Enforcement is that these crashes are preventable. Please, take a moment and speak to your loved ones about the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Never drive impaired, wear a seat belt, and avoid distractions.
