TROOP I NEWS RELEASE

July 28, 2016
Unrestrained Natchitoches Woman Killed in Crash

Evangeline Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Natchitoches, LA. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:00 p.m., which occurred on Interstate 49 south of the Avoyelles Parish line. The crash involved a 2003 Ford van, driven by Samuel Darden (B/M 25 yrs) of New Llano, LA. The Ford was southbound on Interstate 49 when one of the tires experienced a failure. Darden then lost control of the vehicle and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning.

Darden received moderate injuries as a result of the crash. His passenger, identified as Ayesha Davis (B/F 33 yrs), was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

If you experience a tire failure (blowout) while driving don’t apply the brakes initially. After you have regained control of your vehicle then apply the brakes softly. Concentrate on steering, allow the car to slow down gradually, and then steer the vehicle off the road. The type of vehicle you are driving will play a major role in your ability to maintain control. If you are mentally prepared for an emergency, chances are you will respond appropriately.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
