| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Lettsworth Crash LETTSWORTH – Shortly after 5:00 a.m. this morning, a single-vehicle crash on LA 1 in Lettsworth claimed the life of a Bunkie man. Curley Alfred (B/M, age 55) of Bunkie was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Pickup south on LA 1 in Lettsworth when he ran off the road to the left, struck a guardrail, crossed back over the roadway, and struck the guardrail on the right side of the road. The pickup entered the ditch and began to roll onto the passenger side. Alfred, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was partially ejected from the pickup and was killed as a result of his injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash; however, State Troopers have submitted a sample of Alfred’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Louisiana State Troopers see this horrible, yet avoidable, tragedy throughout the state every day. The safest place to be when a vehicle overturns is INSIDE the vehicle. All too often, the passenger compartment is intact after a rollover crash, but the occupant was not properly restrained and was thrown from the passenger compartment. The only way to ensure that you stay inside the vehicle is by properly fastening the seat belt. This act only takes about three seconds to complete, but can add years to your life. Troopers will continue to enforce the state’s primary seat belt law in an effort to keep this horrible tragedy from occurring again. BUCKLE UP, SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!
