TROOP I NEWS RELEASE November 15, 2016 Unrestrained Church Point Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash Evangeline Parish – On November 15, 2016, shortly before 2:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal crash that occurred on LA 10 near Greta Lane in Evangeline Parish. The crash took the life of 52 year old Jeffery Kyle of Church Point, LA. The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Kyle was driving a 2008 GMC Sierra westbound on LA 10. For unknown reasons, Kyle failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off of the right side of the roadway through a ditch, and struck a culvert causing the vehicle to overturn. Kyle was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Kyle sustained critical injuries and was transported to Rapides General where he later succumbed to his injuries. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash, but standard toxicology samples were taken from Kyle and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that distracted driving and lack of seatbelt use continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: | |||
