Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Fatal Crash

Cade, LA Shortly before 8:00 am on March 28, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 92-1 east of Cade. The crash claimed the life of 28 year old John Egle Jr. of Lafayette.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Egle was driving east in a 2010 Audi A5 on LA 92-1. For reasons still under investigation, Egle ran off of the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. Egle was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Egle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were taken from Egle, the results of which are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.
