| TROOP I NEWS RELEASE December 14, 2016 Unrestrained Abbeville Woman Killed in Two Vehicle Crash Perry – occurred on LA 94 near Gum Street west of LA 82 in Vermilion Parish. The crash took the life of 35 year old Katie Gaspard of AbbeviShortly before 7:45 pm on December 13, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a two vehicle fatality crash thatlle, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that Gaspard, was operating a 2007 Toyota Camry eastbound on LA 694 and ran off the right side of the roadway. Gaspard overcorrected, crossed into the westbound lane, and struck a 2014 Infinity Q, driven by 61 year-old Terry Prejean of Abbeville. Gaspard was not wearing a seat belt and sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead on scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office. Prejean and his front seat passenger, 61 year-old Brenda Prejean were both properly restrained. Both were transported to Lafayette General by Acadian Ambulance with moderate injuries. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from Gaspard and Prejean and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, simply buckling up greatly increases your chances of surviving a crash.
