State Police Traffic Stop Reveals Over 20 Pounds of Marijuana

BATON ROUGE – A Louisiana State Trooper on patrol in the Troop A area made a traffic stop this morning that resulted in the arrest of a Texas man and the seizure of over 20 pounds of Marijuana. Just after 5:00 a.m. on Interstate 12 near milepost 32, a State Trooper stopped Jimmy D. Babineaux, Jr (B/M, age 30) of Houston, TX for failing to signal a lane change. During the traffic stop, the Trooper became suspicious and asked for permission to search Babineaux’s rental vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Camry. Troop A’s K-9 Handler arrived at the location and the State Police K-9 alerted to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed 20.4 pounds of marijuana. Troopers arrested Babineaux and booked him into the Livingston Parish Jail on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
