A Trooper’s Christmas Wish: Zero Fatal Crashes

BATON ROUGE – As we approach Christmas Day, it is difficult to reflect on what Troopers have faced on Louisiana highways so far this December. Our Christmas wish is that we can get through the twenty-four hours of Christmas with zero fatal crashes.

Louisiana Troopers have worked almost 40 fatal crashes in the month of December with over 40 persons killed. It is always difficult to make that knock on the door to deliver the heartbreaking news that a loved one is not coming home. However, it is that much more tragic when the house is adorned with Christmas lights and on that door hangs a beautiful Holiday wreath.

Make safety a priority as you celebrate the holiday season. We continue to see common factors in fatal crashes, many of which are preventable.

· Don’t Drive Impaired. Designate a sober driver, call a cab, or stay where you are. Remember that impairment begins with ONE drink.
· Buckle up and make sure all persons in your vehicle are buckled.
· If you travel on foot or by bicycle, wear bright clothing, be cognizant of traffic and travel safe.

Colonel Mike Edmonson and the entire Louisiana State Police family hope that this Holiday is a joyous and safe occasion for all Louisiana’s citizens and visitors to our great State.
