| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-10 BATON ROUGE – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Prairieville man last night on Interstate 10 shortly after 11:00 p.m. Patrick Womack (W/M, age 30) of Prairieville was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Pickup west on Interstate 10 in the right lane approaching LA 44 when he struck the rear of a 2007 Freightliner. The pickup began to rotate clockwise, ran off the road to the right, and overturned into the tree line along the north side of Interstate 10, where it came to rest on its roof. The driver of the Freightliner, Sherman Williams (B/M, age 33) of Baton Rouge, was uninjured in the crash. Williams brought the Freightliner to a controlled stop approximately one-quarter of a mile west of the impact on the shoulder. Preliminary investigation indicates that Womack did not brake or attempt to change lanes before running into the rear of the Freightliner. Womack was unrestrained when the crash occurred. Acadian Ambulance transported him to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he later died because of his injuries. Williams was not injured in the crash. Although Troopers did not suspect alcohol use on Williams’ part, he voluntarily submitted to a chemical test for intoxication at the Gonzales Police Department. The results of the test showed that he had no detectable alcohol in his system. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash; however, Troopers have submitted a sample of Womack’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
