Two Fatal Crashes Overnight in Troop A

BATON ROUGE – Two people were killed in crashes last night in the Troop A area. The first crash, involving a motorcycle, occurred in Livingston Parish. The second crash occurred in Ascension Parish near Sorrento. Shortly after 7:30 p.m. last night, June 5, Jeff R. Leco (W/M, age 28) of Pine Grove was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger north on LA 449 south of LA 1024 when he entered a right-hand curve and crossed over into the southbound lane. The pickup struck a Honda motorcycle, which was traveling south on LA 449, head-on. The driver of the motorcycle, Glen K. Coburn (W/M, age 52) of Walker, was ejected and came to rest along with the motorcycle in the ditch along the west edge of the roadway. Coburn was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, but still sustained fatal injuries because of the crash. Alcohol use by Coburn is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. However, Troopers have submitted a sample of Coburn’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers arrested Leco on the scene for Driving Left of Center and Negligent Homicide.

The second fatal crash occurred in Ascension Parish shortly after 9:30 p.m., June 5, on LA 22 east of LA 935 (Stringer Bridge Road). Percy Guitreau (W/M, age 50) was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Pickup west on LA 22 when he entered a left-hand curve, crossed into the eastbound lane, and entered the on-coming path of a 2004 Honda Accord. The pickup struck the Accord head-on. The driver of the Accord, Lissa Nelson (W/F, age 27) of St. Amant, was seriously injured in the crash. None of the seven occupants involved in the crash were restrained when the crash occurred and they ALL sustained injuries from the crash. Nelson’s front seat passenger, Mitchell P. Bruno (W/M, age 36) of St. Amant was killed in the crash. There were four juveniles in the rear seat of the Accord, none of whom was restrained and all of whom sustained serious injuries in the crash. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor on the part of Guitreau, but not Nelson. However, Troopers have submitted blood samples of both drivers to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers have charged Guitreau with DWI, Vehicular Homicide, and Driving Left of Center.
