Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release August 14, 2009 Driver of Motorcycle Killed in Crash on LA 76 in West Baton Rouge Parish Today, at 5:42 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 76 (Rosedale), west of LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. A 2001 Mack Garbage truck, driven by Kendrick Wade (B/M/age 43) of Baker, LA, was traveling west on LA 76 preparing to make a left turn onto the Port Allen High School parking lot. A 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Kenneth Spears (W/M/age 45) of Greenwood, AR, was traveling eastbound on LA 76. As the vehicles approached each other, the garbage truck proceeded to make a left turn directly in the path of the Harley Davidson motorcycle. Spears attempted to lay the motorcycle down, but in doing so he was ejected off the motorcycle and he impacted the right rear of the garbage truck. After impact, the garbage truck came to a stop in the private parking lot and the motorcycle came to rest upon the left turn lane facing west. The driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, Kenneth Spears, of Greenwood, AR, was transported to Baton Rouge General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at Baton Rouge General, Spears was pronounced dead, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected for Spears; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver of the Mack garbage truck, Kendrick Wade, of Baker, LA, was not injured in the crash. Wade submitted to a chemical breath test and the results indicated .000g% BAC. Wade was charged with RS. 32:104 (Improper Turn). Additional charges may be added pending review by the District Attorney’s Office. | |||
