Multi-Agency Operation Results in Cocaine Seizure

Baton Rouge On Tuesday, October 8, 2013, Louisiana State Police Narcotics agents along with Homeland Security Investigations, US Customs and Border Protection (Office of Air and Marine Operations / Office of Field Operations), Baton Rouge Police Department and Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport Police seized over 70 pounds of cocaine from an airplane that landed at Baton Rouge Metro Airport.

State Police Narcotics agents were notified by Homeland Security Investigations that they were tracking a suspicious aircraft. The airplane (a Beechcraft 58P Baron) began flying from McAllen, TX and was destined for Atlanta, GA. The pilot of the airplane landed at Baton Rouge Metro Airport to refuel. While at the airport, agents met the aircraft and discovered that four (4) individuals were aboard (1 pilot and 3 passengers). Vincenzo Salzano (W/M, DOB 4/12/1958) of Aurora, CO identified himself as the co-owner of the airplane. Salzano gave agents permission to search the aircraft. Upon doing so, agents located nearly 72 pounds of cocaine.

Agents learned that Salzano and his son-in-law, Mohammad Nekouie (O/M, DOB 4/21-1981) also of Aurora, CO, hired a pilot to fly them from Texas to Georgia. Salzano’s son Armando Salzano (W/M, DOB 8/9/1981) of Littleton, CO, was also aboard the airplane. Both father and son along with Nekouie were placed under arrest. They were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for LRS 40:967 - Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

Louisiana State Police will continue to develop strong working relationships with law enforcement agencies across the state in the on-going effort to curb narcotics violators. “This is yet another great example of what law enforcement can accomplish when we unite for a common purpose” stated Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. If citizens have information on suspicious activities, the Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form. Citizens can access the form by visiting www.lsp.org and clicking the Suspicious Activity link. That form is then submitted anonymously to the appropriate investigators.
