Louisiana Gaming Fraud Fugitive Caught in Connecticut Casino

Baton Rouge, LA – An elaborate casino cheat suspect was apprehended early Sunday morning by Connecticut State Police Detectives after being recognized by casino security and caught red-handed. The arrest was made possible due to a cheating scam alert sent by LSP Gaming Investigators to casinos nationwide following the discovery of the scam in a Baton Rouge casino. The suspect, 54 year old Bruce Koloshi of Summit, New Jersey, is currently in custody in Norwich, Connecticut facing charges of Cheating, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny, and Criminal Impersonation.

The nationwide scam alert originated from an incident on August 26th, 2013 at the L’Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge. LSP investigators were contacted by casino security after witnessing Koloshi allegedly “denting” or marking the cards as he played at one of the casino tables. Prior to leaving the casino, Koloshi was interviewed by investigators and voluntarily surrendered his winnings back to the casino totaling over $3,200. Due to lack of evidence at the time of the incident, Koloshi was released.

Further investigation of the suspected marked cards revealed markings made by an invisible luminous ink only visible through an infrared lens. Security footage confirmed that Koloshi consistently reached under the table inking his fingers before placing the invisible marks on the cards. Koloshi is suspected of using modified contact lenses to view the markings while playing. Troopers subsequently obtained a warrant for Koloshi on charges of Cheating and Swindling and Simple Criminal Damage to Property and entered his information into a national database allowing law enforcement agencies and casinos across the country to be on the alert.

As a result of the LSP investigation and nationwide alert, Koloshi was spotted by casino personnel in Connecticut and through the use of an infrared camera filter was caught in the act “denting” or marking cards. “Throughout my career, I have stressed the importance of partnerships both between law enforcement agencies as well as private industry,” states Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson. “The public must feel confident that the integrity of gaming in Louisiana is a priority for the Troopers assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Section. This case illustrates the importance of partnerships and communication within Louisiana and with our partners across the country.”

Koloshi’s extradition back to Louisiana is currently pending his arraignment in Connecticut court.
