Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Driver Flees Fatal Crash on Greenwell Springs Road GREENWELL SPRINGS– This morning at 5:20 am, Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a fatal crash on La Hwy 37 involving one vehicle that left a 26-year-old Denham Springs woman dead. A 1989 Chevrolet S-10 truck, driven by Dallas A. Howard (W/M, 24 years old from Denham Springs) was traveling northbound on La Hwy 37 at a high rate of speed. Howard’s truck entered a curve just north of Liberty Road where he ran off the right side of the roadway. His vehicle continued into the ditch where it struck a tree stump, causing the vehicle to vault and strike several trees. The vehicle then began to roll over, ejecting the driver and his two passengers. The truck came to rest facing east in the middle of La Hwy 37. The front middle seat passenger, Cassi L. Brashier (W/F, 26 years old from Central), died immediately after being ejected from the vehicle. The right seat passenger, Richard Marley (W/M, 21 years old from Denham Springs), receive serious injuries when he was ejected and had to be transported to the hospital by EMS. Immediately after the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot and went to a friend’s home where troopers located him several hours later. Howard was arrested and charged with Careless Operation, Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Driving Under Suspension, No Seatbelt and 2nd offense Driving While Intoxicated. All three occupants are suspected of using alcohol and illegal narcotics. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
