HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE February 10, 2014 E. Feliciana Woman Arrested for ID Theft; Detectives Warn Public of Possible Further Fraudulent Activity Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Detectives and the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking for assistance from the public in helping to identify possible fraudulent credit card activity from an individual who was arrested for credit card thefts and theft of mail which occurred in West Feliciana Parish. West Feliciana Sheriff’s Detectives and State Police Detectives were informed last year by an individual who had learned that her credit card information and former address in W. Feliciana Parish had been used to make several fraudulent purchases in East Baton Rouge and East Feliciana Parishes. The complainant reported that she did not reside in Louisiana when these transactions occurred and that she did not give anyone authorization to use her credit card information. She explained that she believed someone had obtained her information from mail that may have still been delivered to her previous address in W. Feliciana Parish. Through investigative efforts Louisiana State Police and W. Feliciana Sheriff’s Detectives located and placed Jackson, LA resident Chanel P. Gray (B/F, DOB 8/16/1983) under arrest for LRS 14:67.3 (Unauthorized use of an “access card” as theft) and several counts of theft of mail. Gray was located at a residence in Jackson where Detectives located numerous pieces of mail that were addressed to individuals who resided in W. Feliciana Parish. Detectives suspected Gray of stealing mail from numerous mailboxes throughout W. Feliciana Parish and using the information obtained in the mailboxes to open fraudulent credit card accounts. Investigators suspect that there may be more victims who are not aware that their credit has been compromised. The public is urged to check their credit and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Investigators also suspect that Gray was not acting alone and are asking anyone with additional information to please contact the W. Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office (225-784-3136), Louisiana State Police Detectives (225-925-7282), or their local law enforcement agency. Detectives will follow all leads in an effort to identify possible victims of identity theft and to bring this case to a close. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
