| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE January 30, 2013 Former Baker Police Officer Arrested Baker – On January 30, 2013, Louisiana State Police Detectives arrested former Baker Police Sergeant Jason Doyle on charges of Theft and Malfeasance in Office. The arrest was the result of an investigation into allegations against Doyle which occurred while he was employed as the Baker Police Department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer and School Resource Officer. Baker Police Chief Mike Knaps requested State Police Detectives to open an investigation after officers within the Baker Police Department discovered documentation which indicated that Doyle was collecting money from students at several Baker schools for “DARE Fees.” Chief Knaps indicated that all expenses associated with the DARE Program are funded by the Baker Police Dept. through a federal grant and that there is no need to solicit fees from students. Doyle admitted to collecting the “fees.” It was determined that over the course of three years, Doyle collected over $4,000 from students for the unauthorized “fees.” Chief Knaps stated that he asked for assistance from State Police in investigating his former officer because “law enforcement officers should be held to the same (if not higher) standards as the people they protect and serve.” Louisiana State Police takes pride in the partnerships it has forged with law enforcement agencies across the state, and will continue to maintain strong working relationships as evidenced through cases such as these.
