HEADQUARTERS - NEWS RELEASE June 7, 2013 Multi-Agency Investigation Shuts Down Drug Ring Baton Rouge – A drug ring in Assumption Parish was shut down yesterday after an ongoing investigation came to an end as arrest and search warrants were served over three Parishes. Since October 2012, investigators with the Louisiana State Police, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Department of Justice-Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have been conducting an investigation into a drug trafficking organization based in Assumption Parish. The undercover operation spanning three Parishes was named “Operation Shop Closed”. The investigation, which was started by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, began as a follow up on concerned citizens’ complaints about possible drug trafficking in the Kingston Subdivision located in Labadieville, LA. As the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office gathered intelligence on the suspects, they discovered the suspects were part of a larger operation. Assumption Narcotics Agents partnered with Louisiana State Police and U.S. Department of Justice-Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and expanded the scope of the investigation into the surrounding Parishes of Terrebonne and Lafourche. The investigation came to an end yesterday as over 100 agents from Louisiana State Police, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Thibodaux Police Department, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Department of Justice-Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Louisiana National Guard and Louisiana State Department of Public Safety-Probation and Patrol began executing arrest and search warrants over the three Parishes. The search warrants resulted in the seizure of $86,233.00 in cash, 154 grams of cocaine, 348 grams of marijuana, 9mm semi-automatic handgun, 2006 Cadillac DTS, 2004 Cadillac CTS, and the arrest of eight suspects. It was only through the combined effort of all the organizations involved that led to the success of the operation.
