Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE August 12, 2009 Head on Motorcycle Collision Claims the Lives of Young Couple BATON ROUGE – A two-vehicle crash claimed the lives of a young couple on LA 1019 (Springfield Rd) east of LA 447 today just after 4:00 p.m. Jeremy M. Powell (W/M, age 28) of Pine Grove was driving a small Nissan pickup east on LA 1019 when he crossed the center line and struck a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle head on. The motorcycle driver, Brandon N. Wright (W/M, age 22) of Denham Springs, and his passenger, Joanna M. Wright (W/F, age 21) of Denham Springs both sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Powell sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Louisiana State Troopers believe that drug impairment on Powell’s part was a factor in this crash. State Police have arrested Powell and charged him with 2 Counts of Vehicular Homicide, DWI, Reckless Operation, Possession of Schedule 2 and Schedule 3 Controlled Dangerous Substances, and No Seatbelt.
