Office of Motor Vehicles Employee Arrested for Malfeasance

DENHAM SPRINGS- On June 23, 2009, the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division arrested an Office of Motor Vehicles employee for illegally accepting money for services rendered at the Denham Springs OMV branch.

An internal audit conducted by the Office of Motor Vehicles revealed Deborah Seals (B/F, 55 yrs old of Baton Rouge) was illegally taking money from customers who were attempting to renew their driver’s licenses at the Denham Springs branch of OMV. The internal audit and subsequent investigation by State Police showed many of the applicants were ineligible to receive driver’s licenses, yet Seals issued them anyway in exchange for monetary compensation. Seals was employed as the Assistant Manager of the Denham Springs OMV when she was arrested.

Office of Motor Vehicles administrators have put an emphasis on methods to detect fraud within their agency. Seals’ arrest is the result of increased efforts by OMV to identify fraudulent activities by OMV employees.

Seals was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on 20 counts of Filing False Public Records and one count of Malfeasance in Office.
