St. Gabriel Police Officers Arrested for Theft, Malfeasance in Office

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State Troopers arrested two St. Gabriel Police Officers today in Baton Rouge after a three-week investigation into allegations of theft while on duty. Keith Snowten (B/M, age 23) of St. Gabriel and Rodrick Wesley (B/M, age 32) of Bayou Goula were charged with Theft and Malfeasance in Office and State Troopers assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division in Baton Rouge booked them into the Iberville Parish Jail this afternoon.

On October 19, St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau contacted Louisiana State Police and asked for assistance with an investigation of the two officers. Chief Ambeau had learned that the officers allegedly stole cash from the wallet of a deceased driver in a fatal crash that occurred two month earlier. Chief Ambeau then conducted a preliminary investigation of the allegations. Upon learning that the allegations were legitimate, Chief Ambeau immediately contacted State Police detectives and turned the investigation over to them. The State Police investigation revealed that Snowten assisted in the investigation of a single-vehicle fatal crash on August 8, 2009 in St. Gabriel. During the crash investigation, Snowten stole approximately two thousand dollars from the deceased driver’s wallet and gave half of that money to Wesley. Over the course of the investigation, Troopers interviewed witnesses, reviewed videos of interviews performed by St. Gabriel P.D., and reviewed the investigation of the fatal crash. Troopers also interviewed Snowten and Wesley at LSP Headquarters this morning. Troopers concluded their investigation today, arrested both subjects, and booked them into the Iberville Parish Jail. They were both charged with Felony Theft and Malfeasance in Office.
