Department of Revenue Employee Arrested

BATON ROUGE- A former employee of the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) faces nine felony charges including identity theft and unauthorized use of credit card information.

Louisiana State Police detectives took Joy Lynn Aikens, (B/F, 39 years old from Prairieville) into custody on Tuesday, October 27. Her arrest is the result of a joint investigation between State Police and the LDR Criminal Investigations Division (CID).

Aikens became a suspect when two taxpayers contacted LDR claiming that an agency employee requested their credit card information when they called to make payments on their accounts. Requesting credit card information from taxpayers is a violation of LDR policy. The CID investigation determined that Aikens answered both calls, and that she subsequently used one of the credit card numbers to make four unauthorized purchases.

Aikens was also identified as the suspect in the theft of a credit card belonging to another LDR employee. She allegedly used the card to make purchases at several stores in East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes. The arrest warrant issued by the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge Parish includes the following charges:

· Malfeasance in Office ( 1 count)
· Identity Theft (2 counts)
· Unauthorized Use of Access Card (6 counts).
