| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE September 18, 2009 Lafayette Man Killed in I-10 Crash BATON ROUGE – A Lafayette man was killed today on Interstate 10 in West Baton Rouge Parish just after 3:00 p.m. when he ran off the road and struck a tree. Shannon J. Kibodeaux (W/M, age 33) of Lafayette was driving a 2004 Ford Pickup east on I-10 at milepost 147.5 when he lost control of the pickup and ran off the road to the right. The pickup began to rotate clockwise and then struck a cluster of trees with its front and left side. Kibodeaux was pronounced deceased at the scene by the West Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office. There was a light rain at the time of the crash and Troopers believe that speed, vehicle conditions (worn tires), and driver distraction (cell phone use) were all factors in the crash. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. However, Troopers have submitted a sample of Kibodeaux’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
