BATON ROUGE- Today, March 17, 2008, the Louisiana State Police is beginning a major recruitment effort to find professional candidates who are looking for a rewarding career as a Louisiana State Trooper. State Police is hiring an additional 50 troopers for a September 2008 cadet class.

As a result, State Police recruiters will be attending numerous job fairs and career days around the state over the next several weeks. They are available for on-site visits at the Louisiana State Police Training Academy, located in Baton Rouge.

Candidates applying for the September 2008 will find a much more streamlined hiring process compared to previous cadet classes. Thanks to a new computerized database system, automated background checks and dedicated background investigative personnel, State Police has been able to reduce the amount of time for the hiring process dramatically.

Cadet Class 91, tentatively scheduled for September 2008, will be a 17-week academy class. Restructuring of the academic and training curriculum at the Louisiana State Police Academy has resulted in a more efficient training program, which enables trainers to provide the same level of quality training in less time than previous cadet classes.

Interested candidates must submit their employment applications to the State Police Commission and complete the entrance exam by April 30th, 2008 to be eligible for Class 91. Candidates can review qualifications and application information at www.lsp.org (recruitment link). State Police recruiters can be contacted via email at recruiting@dps.state.la.us or by telephone toll free at 1-800-422-0717. Additional contact telephone numbers are (225)925-6313 or (225)925-6195.
