Edmonson, Superintendent News Release - July 09, 2008 First Lady to Speak at Camp Win-a-Friend As part of her endeavor to champion children’s issues, Louisiana First Lady Supriya Jindal, in partnership with the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Trooper Foundation, will address the girls’ session of Camp Win-A-Friend. Mrs. Jindal will speak to the 39 young women and staff on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10:30 AM in Holden, LA at the State Police Camp Win-A-Friend property. Mrs. Jindal, a successful mother of three, is an accomplished professional in her own right. She earned a degree from Tulane in Chemical Engineering as well as her MBA. Mrs. Jindal currently espouses the importance of math and science to school-age children and supports the Louisiana Pediatric Cardiology Foundation. In 2003, the Louisiana State Police reestablished Camp Win-A-Friend. Formed nearly 30 years ago, Camp Win-A-Friend was originally funded and maintained by the Louisiana State Police. The summer camp for youth is located at its original site in Holden on the beautiful Tickfaw River. The facility is ideally suited for swimming, canoeing, archery, hiking, and various other resident camp activities. Troopers bring campers from their own communities and stay to serve as mentors, camp counselors and instructors. A special emphasis is placed on selecting campers who may not be able to attend a summer camp due to being disadvantaged or underprivileged. Trooper Counselors strive to instill in the campers self-confidence, leadership, teambuilding, and positive decision-making. Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent, stated, “We are honored that Mrs. Jindal has taken time out of her busy schedule to visit Camp Win-A-Friend and share her thoughts and experiences with these young ladies.” For more information, contact: Lt.
