| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE September 21, 2009 Unrestrained Driver Killed in I-10 Crash BATON ROUGE – A Baton Rouge man was killed this morning shortly before 3:00 a.m. in a crash on the Interstate 10 Mississippi River Bridge. Eric J. Barrow (W/M, age 27) of Baton Rouge was driving a 1999 Nissan Frontier west on I-10 when he struck the rear of a 2002 Freightliner in the inside westbound lane of Interstate 10. The Freightliner was stopped on the down slope of the bridge due to an earlier crash. Barrow was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries when the Nissan ran underneath the box trailer being pulled by the Freightliner. The driver of the Freightliner, James R. Jason (B/M, age 31) of Miami Springs, TX, was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash. Jason voluntarily submitted a breath sample, which showed no trace of detectable alcohol in his system. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash. However, Troopers have submitted a sample of Barrow’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
