| BATON ROUGE – Today, Colonel Michael Edmonson, Deputy Secretary of Public Safety Services, announced Kay Hodges as the new Commissioner for the Office of Motor Vehicles. Ms. Hodges has over 30 years of dedicated service in the Office of Motor Vehicles. From 1996-2006, she served as the Assistant Secretary/Commissioner for the department. In her tenure as Assistant Secretary/Commissioner, the overall customer service rating of the department significantly improved. She was instrumental in establishing internet capability for the renewal of license plates, driver’s licenses and other motor vehicle transactions. Working through partnerships with the parishes and municipalities, 43 customer service offices were constructed or renovated under her leadership. Additionally, she obtained state of the art security features for driver’s licenses and titles in an effort to protect the citizens of Louisiana from fraud. The Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate Transportation Committees have recognized Ms. Hodges for her distinguished service. Ms. Hodges previously served as the Headquarters Administrator for the Office of Motor Vehicles where she established a training program for automobile dealerships, banks and other entities which conduct business with the department. She also served as the Field Services Administrator. In this position, she merged driver’s license registration functions in 86 customer service offices for a more efficient operation which enhanced customer service. Ms. Hodges has studied at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana State University, Duke University and Harvard University. She is a 28 year member of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). In her association with AAMVA, she was elected as President and Vice-President of Region II and served as an International Board Member. While a member of AAMVA, she was appointed to the Vehicle Registration Committee, Motor Carrier Services Committee, Uninsured Motorists Working Group and the Driver’s License Standards Working Group. Ms. Hodges also served on the Governor’s DWI Task Force, Louisiana Property and Casualty Insurance Committee and the Midwest Odometer and Title Fraud Enforcement Association. Colonel Edmonson stated, “I am excited to have Ms. Hodges rejoin the DPS family as the Commissioner for the Office of Motor Vehicles. As she has done throughout her career, I expect her to continue her commitment to customer service, partnerships and efficient operation of the department.
