| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release January 21, 2008 One Arrested at Jena Demonstration for Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest At approximately 12:40 pm today, about a dozen counter-protesters who were assembled near the front of the LaSalle Parish Courthouse were asked to move to the area designated for such demonstrations to ensure the safety of the protesters and counter-protesters. After repeated requests, the group refused to move and some members became verbally and physically aggressive. After Louisiana State Police Troopers began to escort the assembly toward the barricaded side of the courthouse, forty-two year old William Winchester Jr. of New Orleans, struck a State Trooper. When troopers affected his arrest, Winchester was physically combative.
