Edmonson, Superintendent HEADQUARTERS- NEWS RELEASE State Police Haz-Mat/Explosives Unit And DEQ Inspects Major Facilities After Gustav BATON ROUGE- The Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials/Explosives Unit and DEQ have worked diligently since Hurricane Gustav made landfall last week inspecting chemical plants, railroads, storage facilities and refineries in the state to ensure the safety of Louisiana’s citizens. State Police technicians, along with agents from the Department of Environmental Quality, have spent the past several days working with Petro/Chem Company Representatives inspecting sites and facilities where hazardous materials may be contained or manufactured which were affected by Hurricane Gustav. The LSP and DEQ teams have inspected 300 facilities and over 100 explosive licensees so far. This physical inspection includes 52 major industrial sites. As a result of these inspections, all major railroad operations have resumed within the state.
