Edmonson, Superintendent September 27, 2008 Headquarters- NEWS RELEASE Louisiana State Police Cadet Class 91 BATON ROUGE - This weekend begins the journey for eighty-seven cadets who have made the commitment to serve the citizens of Louisiana as Louisiana State Troopers. These dedicated individuals will report to the Louisiana State Police Training Academy on Sunday, September 28th, to start seventeen weeks of intensive learning and training before they can wear the blue and gold uniform of the Louisiana State Police. These cadets were hand-selected for State Police Cadet Class #91 after completing an extensive hiring process. The seventeen-week academy will include classroom instruction on topics such as state and federal laws, ethics, crash investigation, and impaired driver detection. The cadets will also participate in various practical and field training exercises consisting of scenario-based training, pursuit driving, firearms training, defensive tactics and a rigorous daily physical fitness routine. “My goal coming in as Superintendent was to make this department better,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “This effort continues today with these eighty-seven cadets who will be the newest of a dedicated group of law enforcement professionals committed to serving the citizens of Louisiana.” This cadet class is one of the largest in State Police history and is the first to include the 50 additional positions provided to the department through Governor Bobby Jindal’s commitment to public safety.
