Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – December 28, 2010 Looking For A New Year’s Resolution – BUCKLE UP Baton Rouge – During the Christmas travel weekend, the Louisiana State Police investigated five fatal crashes resulting in five deaths. The Christmas travel weekend began Thursday, December 23rd at 6 p.m. and continued through Sunday, December 26th at midnight. Eighty percent of the fatal crashes involved unrestrained vehicle occupants. Troop A (Baton Rouge): NONE Troop B (New Orleans): NONE Troop C (Houma/Thibodeaux): One crash resulting in one death. Troop D (Lake Charles): Two crashes resulting in two deaths. Occupants were not properly restrained. Troop E (Alexandria): NONE Troop F (Monroe): One crash resulting in one death. Occupant was not properly restrained. Troop G (Shreveport): One crash resulting in one death. Occupant was not properly restrained. Troop I (Lafayette): NONE Troop L (Mandeville): NONE “The New Year is quickly approaching. Troopers will continue aggressive enforcement of seatbelt violations and impaired driving during the upcoming New Year’s weekend,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “If you are struggling with a New Year’s resolution, commit to wearing a seatbelt.
