| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Overturned 18-Wheeler Causes Interstate Closure LIVINGSTON- At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single-vehicle collision by an eastbound 18-wheeler on Interstate 12 near Livingston. Daniel A. McRae (W/M, 51 years old from Phoenix, AZ) was driving his 2003 Freightliner 18-wheeler eastbound on I-12 east of Livingston when he experienced a tire failure on one of his right rear tires. As McRae was checking his side-view mirror for damage to the tire, his truck began to drift off the right side of the roadway. He then struck a bridge guardrail, causing his truck to overturn. The semi-tractor came to rest on its right side, while the trailer climbed over the guardrail and was hanging over the bridge railing. The contents of the cargo trailer spilled out onto the shoulder and the grassy area below the truck. Approximately 330 feet of guard railing was damaged during the collision. State and local officials were forced to close both eastbound lanes to recover the cargo and upright the 18-wheeler. Traffic was re-routed northbound on LA Hwy 63 to US Hwy 190. At approximately 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, both lanes of I-12 eastbound were re-opened. McRae received minor injuries in the crash and was transported to North Oaks Hospital. McRae was wearing his seat belt and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. He was cited for Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. | |||
