No Seatbelt, Driver Impairment, Speed = Holiday Deaths

Baton Rouge – During the 2011 Easter weekend, the Louisiana State Police investigated 10 fatal crashes resulting in 10 deaths.

Troop A (Baton Rouge): Three crashes resulting in three deaths. Impairment and no seat belt usage are suspected in two of the crashes. In one of these crashes, all occupants including two children (age 3 and 5) were not restrained, ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Speed is a contributing factor in another.

Troop B (New Orleans): One crash resulting in one death. Impairment is suspected in this crash.

Troop C (Houma/Thibodeaux): One crash resulting in one death. This crash involved a motorcycle operator wearing a non-DOT approved helmet.

Troop D (Lake Charles): NONE

Troop E (Alexandria): One crash resulting in one death. The driver was not properly restrained and ejected from vehicle.

Troop F (Monroe): One crash involving one death. A driver from a previous crash exited his vehicle, lied down in the roadway and was struck by a vehicle.

Troop G (Shreveport): One crash resulting in one death. Excessive speed is suspected as a contributing factor in this crash.

Troop I (Lafayette): Two crashes resulting in two deaths. One of these crashes involved a motorcycle operator who was not wearing a helmet.

Troop L (Mandeville): NONE
