Edmonson, Superintendent Press Release – Headquarters May 31, 2011 Deadly Memorial Day Weekend on LA Highways Baton Rouge – During the 2011 Memorial Day weekend, the Louisiana State Police investigated 7 fatal crashes resulting in 10 deaths. Troop A (Baton Rouge): Two single vehicle crashes resulting in two deaths. These crashes both involved vehicles that veered off the roadway, overturned and ejected the unrestrained occupants. Troop B (New Orleans): NONE Troop C (Houma/Thibodeaux): A vehicle/motorcycle crash resulting in one death. This crash involved a motorcycle operator wearing a non-DOT approved helmet. Troop D (Lake Charles): A single vehicle crash resulting in one death. This crash involved a vehicle that veered off the roadway and overturned. Troop E (Alexandria): An ATV crash resulting in one death. The crash involved an ATV that overturned and ejected the driver and passenger. Troop F (Monroe): NONE Troop G (Shreveport): A two vehicle crash resulting in four deaths. Three of the four persons who sustained fatal injuries were unrestrained, one of which was a 7y/o. Troop I (Lafayette): A single vehicle crash resulting in one death and one critical injury. This crash involved a vehicle that veered off the roadway, overturned and ejected the driver and passengers. The driver fled the scene. Troopers continue to investigate.
