Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE White Castle Woman Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash ADDIS- On June 7, 2009 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 1 near Dow Chemical. A 2004 Honda Accord, driven by Rachel A. Richard (W/F, 26 yrs old) of White Castle, was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 1 in the left lane. For unknown reasons, Richard swerved to the right causing her to lose control of her vehicle. The vehicle then ran off the right side of the roadway where it overturned onto its roof and continued to slide until it struck a tree. The impact with the tree caused the vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise, ejecting, both the driver and the passenger. Richard sustained fatal injuries during the crash and died at the scene. The passenger, Blake M. Benoit (W/M, 26 yrs old) of White Castle, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake with severe injuries by Acadian Air-Med. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood samples from Richard were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Results are still pending. Sgt. Markus L.
