Louisiana State Police Memorial Ceremony

BATON ROUGE- On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, the Louisiana State Police will honor and remember the dedicated men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving others.

On average, 150 police officers from various agencies are killed in the line of duty each year. Since 1925, 25 Louisiana State Troopers have lost their lives while serving the citizens of Louisiana. The most recent member of the Louisiana State Police family who made the ultimate sacrifice was Senior Trooper Duane Dalton, who was killed in the line of duty on January 12 near Moss Bluff, LA while on patrol. Prior to Trooper Dalton’s death, the last trooper killed in the line of duty was Trooper Hung N. Le of Troop B on June 30, 1998.

Each of the 25 courageous Troopers left behind loved ones who have had to endure their loss. It is for the family members of these fallen Troopers that we remember and pay tribute to them during this special ceremony.

A memorial poem will be read by Linda Henry, the sister of Trooper Donald Cleveland, who was killed in the line of duty on July 2, 1977 at the young age of 25.

Please join us for the 2010 Louisiana State Police Memorial Ceremony that will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the memorial in front of Louisiana State Police Headquarters. The public and media are encouraged to attend.
