Edmonson, Superintendent HEADQUARTERS- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release - November 8, 2010 Safety is Paramount at Capitol Rally Baton Rouge – The Louisiana State Police is making preparations for the “Rally for Higher Education” scheduled for November 10, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the State Capitol. State Police is being assisted by the Department of Public Safety Police, Baton Rouge City Police Department, LSU Police and Capitol Security staff. A large crowd is anticipated for the event. The vast majority of the participants are expected to peacefully assemble to express their first amendment rights. However, some information received by the State Police suggests that a small number of individuals may attempt to disrupt the rally with unlawful actions. Individuals who choose to act unlawfully will be dealt with swiftly as to not hinder the constitutional rights of peaceful participants or public safety operations. “Every day, the men and women of the Louisiana State Police safeguard the constitutional rights of individuals and ensure the preservation of law and order throughout the state. The same can be expected at this rally,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “The rally must remain a safe environment for the participants, downtown employees and visitors to the area.” Participants should park in the River Road parking lot adjacent to the railroad tracks across from the Pentagon Barracks. Buses should unload on Spanish Town Road at Fourth Street. Participants are reminded to hydrate and eat a morning meal. Questions and/or concerns should be directed to DPS Police at 225-219-4410.
