Baton Rouge Man Arrested, Charged with Insurance Fraud and Felony Theft Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Detectives assigned to the Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft Unit arrested Michael Stephens (B/M, age 34) of Baton Rouge on charges of Insurance Fraud and Felony Theft yesterday. The arrest was the result of an investigation into a complaint made by the US Agencies Insurance Company. In March 2009, Stephens was the passenger in vehicle that was involved in a crash. He claimed he sustained injuries and filed a claim with US Agencies. He stated he sought treatment at a Baton Rouge area hospital and submitted a medical bill from the hospital. US Agencies paid him $1,720.35 to cover his medical expenses. Detectives’ investigation revealed the medical bill Stephens submitted had been altered. Stephens was treated by the hospital in October 2008, approximately five months before the crash. In addition, he never paid the hospital and the account was still outstanding. Troopers obtained a warrant for Stephen’s arrest in the 19th Judicial District Court. Yesterday, detectives located Stephens and booked him into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
