Vermilion Parish – On February 5, 2019, Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (SVU) – Alexandria Field Office arrested an Abbeville man for charges related to rape of a juvenile. 42-year-old Bryan D. Kibodeaux, a Deputy with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office, was arrested for various charges as a result of the SVU investigation.

The investigation began on January 24, 2019, when Investigators with SVU received a complaint involving the sexual abuse of a child in Vermilion Parish. During the course of the investigation, Investigators identified Kibodeaux as the suspect, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. On February 5, 2019, Investigators executed a search warrant at Kibodeaux’s residence in Abbeville.

Kibodeaux was placed under arrest on the warrant. He was booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center for LRS 14:42 – First degree rape, LRS 14:81 - Indecent behavior with juveniles (4 counts) and LRS 14:43.1 – Sexual battery (4 counts). Investigators were assisted by the LSP Technical Support Unit, LSP Criminal Intelligence Unit, and agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Sheriff Mike Couvillon and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office also assisted SVU in this case, and Kibodeaux’s employment has been terminated per VPSO. This investigation remains ongoing.

The LSP Special Victims Unit works in partnership with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and investigate child and adult sex and labor trafficking across Louisiana. The public plays an integral role in identifying suspects accused of these crimes, and is strongly urged to report criminal or suspicious activity. The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators.
