| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE June 15, 2009 Unrestrained Driver Killed in One-Vehicle Crash BATON ROUGE – A young man was killed yesterday when the vehicle he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree. Shortly after 3:00 pm yesterday, June 14, Alvin Ramirez (W/M, age 17) of Holden was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup north on LA 441 north of LA 1036 when he ran off the right side of the road. Ramirez overcorrected to the left, lost control of the pickup, and ran off the left side of the road into a ditch. The front of the pickup struck a tree and Ramirez, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle and later died from his injuries. Ramirez’s passenger, Chasity Parish (W/F, age 19) of Holden, who was also unrestrained, was ejected when the pickup struck the tree. Parish sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries in the crash. Ramirez and Parish were both transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Louisiana State Troopers continue to see senseless, tragic injuries and deaths that could be avoided every day throughout the state on our roadways. Many of these injuries and deaths can potentially be avoided by simply using a seat belt. Troopers will continue to enforce the state’s primary seat belt law in an effort to continue to increase seat belt usage throughout the state. Contact Information: Tpr Russell G.
