Trooper George Baker to be honored at Private Memorial Service in Hammond

Tangipahoa Parish – Trooper George Baker will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 28, 2020 following a private memorial service for his family, Louisiana State Police Troopers, and uniformed law enforcement colleagues. The service will take place at 10:30 am at the University Center on the Southeastern Louisiana University campus in Hammond, LA. Due to restrictions of the current COVID-19 conditions, inside seating will be limited and agencies are asked to send a minimal amount of representatives.

For those unable to attend services inside of the SLU University Center, Louisiana State Police will provide a link to a livestreamed feed of the memorial service and is inviting law enforcement agencies to participate in the procession from the Southeastern University Center to the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Independence, LA. Please be advised that in compliance with CDC recommendations, all attendees will be screened with temperature checks and the use of masks and social distancing between family units will be strongly encouraged.

With the assistance of the Southeastern Sports Network, a link for the livestreamed service will be available on the LSP Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LouisianaStatePolice.

The public can demonstrate their support for Trooper Baker and his family by lining the procession route utilizing the attached route map. Procession start time is tentatively set for 12:15 pm with updates being provided on the LSP social media accounts.

*The private memorial service will be closed to the public and media. Media representatives wishing to stage at the University Center are asked to park in the southwest corner parking lot at the intersection of West University Avenue and Lion Lane. This staging area will provide an unobstructed view of the procession as it exits from the University Center (map attached).
