HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE Three Baton Rouge Men Arrested for Staging Crash Baton Rouge – Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit – Baton Rouge Field Office have arrested three Baton Rouge men for violations pertaining to Louisiana insurance fraud laws. The arrests were the result of an investigation into a staged vehicle crash which occurred in October of last year. The initial investigation revealed on October 8, 2018, 23-year-old Lyle Morgan rented a U-Haul truck in Baton Rouge. Morgan was later involved in a crash in which he rear-ended a Hyundai Elantra driven by 27-year-old Warren Davis. 25-year-old Jahi Cox was a passenger in the Hyundai. The goal of the staged crash was to generate fraudulent insurance claims for intentionally damaged property and fake bodily injuries, which could have resulted in a loss of over $60,000.00. At the conclusion of the investigation, State Police Detectives obtained arrest warrants for those involved in the crash. Jahi Cox was arrested on March 12, 2019. Warren Davis was arrested on March 22, 2019, and Lyle Morgan was arrested on March 26, 2019. All three were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail on charges of LRS 22:1924 – Insurance fraud and LRS 14:26 – Criminal conspiracy. The Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit is responsible for investigating referrals of suspected fraudulent insurance acts.
