| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE July 1, 2009 Unrestrained Gonzales Resident Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on US 61 BATON ROUGE – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Gonzales man at 5:50pm this evening on US 61 near LA 73 in Ascension Parish. Henry Jackson (B/M, age 70) of Gonzales was operating a 2005 Dodge Magnum when he pulled from the shoulder of US 61 into the path of a southbound 2003 Peterbuilt. Lawrence Capers (W/M, age 57) of Gonzales, who was driving the Peterbuilt, attempted to avoid the collision but struck the Dodge broadside as it pulled into the roadway. Jackson, who was unrestrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. Capers, who was properly restrained, was uninjured in the crash. Although Troopers do not suspect alcohol use on Capers’ part, he voluntarily submitted to a chemical test for intoxication at State Police Troop A. The results of the test showed that he had no detectable alcohol in his system. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash; however, Troopers have submitted a sample of Jackson’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
