Unrestrained Driver Killed in Springfield Crash

BATON ROUGE – A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Springfield man this morning at 1230 a.m. on LA 22 west of LA 1037. John A. Bass (W/M, age 53) of Springfield was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala east on LA 22 when he entered a right-hand curve. Bass failed to negotiate the curve, crossed the oncoming traffic lane, and ran off the road to the right. The Impala entered a ditch and then struck a tree with the left front bumper. Bass was unrestrained when the crash occurred and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office.

Troopers are still investigating and trying to determine the cause of the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash; however, Troopers have submitted a sample of Bass’ blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers continue to see senseless, tragic injuries and deaths that could be avoided every day throughout the state on our roadways. Many of these injuries and deaths could potentially be avoided by simply using a seat belt. Troopers will continue to enforce the state’s primary seat belt law in an effort to continue to increase seat belt usage throughout the state.

BUCKLE UP!!! SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!
