HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE May 12, 2015 State Police to Honor Fallen Heroes in Candlelight Vigil Memorial Ceremony Baton Rouge, LA – The Louisiana State Police will honor and remember the dedicated men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice at the annual State Police Memorial Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the memorial in front of Louisiana State Police Headquarters (7919 Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge) on Thursday, May 14th at 6:00 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Training Academy auditorium. On average, 150 officers from various law enforcement agencies are killed in the line of duty each year. Since 1925, twenty-seven Louisiana State Troopers have lost their lives while serving the citizens of Louisiana. “This special ceremony serves as an opportunity to recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of our state,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “Each of the twenty-seven courageous Troopers left behind loved ones who have had to bear their loss. It is our duty to not only recognize the sacrifices of the fallen Troopers, but also the difficulties and grief endured by their families.” The public and media are invited and encouraged to attend.
